Your first routine

Start with the job that eats a morning

The report somebody rebuilds every Monday. The inbox that gets triaged before anyone can start. The invoices that get retyped into a spreadsheet. You already know the steps, and doing them is the boring part. Pick one. You do not have to describe it well, you have to describe it once.

Say it in a sentence

Open a chat and tell an agent what you want, in the words you would use with a new colleague:

Every Monday at 08:00, pull last week's orders, write the summary the way I usually write it, and post it to the Leadership chat.

An agent turns that into a workflow: the steps, the values passed between them, and the schedule. If something is missing, a channel it cannot reach or a document it has not been given, it says so instead of guessing. You are reviewing something that already runs rather than starting a project.

Decide what starts it

A clock is only one way in. A routine can start when an email arrives, when somebody messages your Telegram, Slack or Discord bot, when a file lands in a watched folder, when a repository gets a push, when a feed updates, or when another system calls your workspace. Say which one when you describe the routine, so the work starts where your work already turns up and nobody has to remember to check.

Decide where the result lands

Posted into a chat channel, emailed, written into a document, or served as a page at its own address that you send to somebody who will never sign in here. The answer should arrive where people already look, without anybody opening the workspace to fetch it.

Knowing on Friday that it worked

Every run is kept: when it started, what each step did, what came back, how long it took and what it cost. When something is wrong you can see the step that went wrong instead of reconstructing the morning. When nothing is wrong you can stop thinking about it, which is the point of putting it here.

Then do the next one

The second routine takes minutes, because you already know the shape of the first. The cookbook has the routines people build here, each with the words to paste into a chat: sort the inbox before you open it, chase the overdue invoices, turn a folder of spreadsheets into the monthly report.
